We are pleased that you have found your way to our departmental website. As the Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling and Counseling Psychology, we train professionals to work with a variety of clients and in a variety of settings. I invite you take a look around: Our Counseling program offers two tracks – community mental health and school counseling. Our Rehabilitation Counseling program pioneered the use of distance technology to deliver a quality education. Our Counseling Psychology program is developing an emphasis in military psychology. Every program is nationally accredited: CACREP for the Counseling programs, CORE for the Rehabilitation Counseling program, and APA for the Counseling Psychology program.
The faculty of this department is characterized by three over-arching qualities: Their dedication to our students, outstanding teaching, and national reputations in their fields. We pride ourselves in the “above and beyond” dedication to the learning and mentoring of students. This cuts across the class and into other professional development activities, such as attending and presenting at conferences together, conducting community service, and engaging in scholarly activities. Such engagement between the faculty and the students enhances the national recognition of the programs within the department.
So please, look through our website. We hope you will consider West Virginia University for your graduate education, and welcome your inquiries.
